On Tuesday 7th July David Strahan repeated his presentation on Peak Oil to the Yorkshire and Humber branch. This event was supported by the Institute for Transport Studies at the University of Leeds. The event was thought provoking and generated a good level of discussion. The presentation can be found in the Online Library (please look under the Society tab on the main menu).
On Wednesday 3rd June an event was held in conjunction with the RTPI which looked at the issues surrounding transport in Leeds and how these could be addressed through a transport strategy part funded by TIF).
Paul Roberts, TIF Technical Manager for Metro, gave a presentation on the Transport for Leeds study that is being carried out by Metro and Leeds City Council, to look at congestion in Leeds and how it can be tackled through investment in better transport systems.
The Transport for Leeds study could result in a funding bid with the Department for Transport (DfT), from its Transport Innovation Fund to support any transport improvements identified by the study. If Leeds’ bid is successful, the city could benefit from significant investment in new and improved transport.
Paul outlined the background to the project and provided an update on its first two stages, including the emerging strategy.
Chris Glen, Chair of the Federation of Small Business’s National Policy Committee on Transport responded to this presentation and considered how the proposals may affect small businesses within Leeds.
The meeting was then opened up for questions/comments from the audience.
